fairy bonbon

Maybe you see it, yes my blog name is inspired by this character and costume. This costume has a large meaning for me, it has a story just like other costumes. But this story has a bad ending, because this dress died in the washing machine.... and cried that I did, and still i'm mourning about this dress. but the charachter is not dead, still pretty alive in me off course.

one day I shall make an new dress for this character, but first her story.

April 2014, elfia (elf fantasy fair) Haarzuilen.

This was the day my dress got an other meaning than it was only a dress. When I made the dress, it was the intention that the dress was not big! large! and not even impresive. My idea was to lay on the attention to my antique baby carriage (from around 1900's) that I turned to a candycar.

I made the costume so that I had an act that was interactive with children. I was the candy fairy and if the children dare to grabble a candy they had an treatment. The story goes that I passed by a lane for the second time that day, an boy of a market vendor that the first time picked a candy, yelled to his father something in french (I dind't understood what he said) but one word I understand perfect: fairy bonbon.

His father came to me again and the shy boy stood after him and told me, his boy asked a couple times of the fairy bonbon yet should pass by. my haert was touched of that thing, the little boy had waited a couple houres, watching, when i passed by so he had the change to ask me for an other candy. And ofcourse he received some candy.

That day I realised that it is not only the costume that matters but also the character that you play. I love fairy bonbon, just like the other kids. She is the innocent side that I represent.

So you know why I cried about that dress, it was just like a side of me was destroyed. But there i good new as well, I know what I go to make of the dress. An onderpinning for an new regency gown. But I shall later on tell you more about that. first this project.

So here do you see the dress, with spencer that I made if it was what colder and the turqouise baby carriage. I bought that thing in this coolor, but i'm planning to renovated the thing in her original disign.

Here do you see the dress without the spencer. This photo is taken on castlfest that year.
The wig that i'm wearing is gluwed on my forehead, a really dissaster if you try is off....
Maybe you recognize him... but yes, he is the friend where i'm king with at the certain moment of elfia (2015-2016). On this picture we had met just a few houres a go. And he promised me that day if he wanted to by king of elfia, he wanted me as his queen. lol. and it happend, it was funny if you know that we never met before and that day we where most of the time on the same pictures, because ours colours matched perfectly.
Here a detail without the spencer. it is a pitty the dress is shrunken and the wild silk is not that pretty anymore. Some ribbons where also a little bit antique and are now bright yellow then pearl white...

I fount this picture look very innocent. A little bit the reflection of the character.

So for the making part.

This was one of the first dresses where i made underwear for. the green dress is made of butterick 6630, and as for more dresses, i made some adjusments. for de spencer as well for the dress.

The underpinning was made of  Sense and Sensebility: a regency underthings pattern.

When I'm gonna make a new regency dress, I will make long stays because that should better with my posture. But for then, i have my short stays. The shift is very basic and dind't need any replacement yet.

My beautyfull green wild silk :'( It was really my precious.. but good, the store where they sell it, is it very buyable. it is 100% wild silk, and that was the suprise. it was under the 10 € t/m

So I think, i'm goining to buy new green silk and make a better one :p

Here do you see the beginning of the bodice in progress and a chemisette I never ussed. The pearls are pinned, just like de medallion.

Back view, beacause I dind't like the lace closure of the pattern I made a button closure.

On this picture you can see that the skirt and the lacy fabric are attached on the bodice. For the lacy fabric was an own attachment.

Here you see that is was handstiching for the little beads. It took a little while.

The end product, I made an little riticule (handbag) what here is pinned on for the picture.

I got the lacy fabric from a dear friend of my, she given me at my bithday a year before this project.

I know that er not very much photo's are from the making part. I'm sorry for that.
But this is the story after my fairy bonbon character. And I know that you now why I choose for the blogname Lady BonBon.

This pretty girl is an German carriage from around 1900. The original was a brown bin with white leather coating. I bought him when he was already blue.

But for later, this is an other project for in the future.

Here do you see what i hade in my candy care... nomnomnom, even an fairy had it difficult :p The blue hole was the grable hole for the children.

So, for the next time, it will be my experience of venice...

my fairy queens dress

So if i tell you i'm a big shot? are you gonna belief me? no? me neither...
But if i tell you i'm at the curtaint moment a real Queen, do you belief me then? no? Guess what, i'm at the moment a real queen! (2015-2016) xD

In september you have the the event in the Netherlands Elfia, this event is twice a year. one in april in Haarzuilen, and one in september in Arcen.

This year a friend of my and i participeted to the voting of the new monarchs of elfia, and yes we won. That mean that i have live long free entrance for these 2 events a year, and an half year we are the technical monarchs of elfia, by the next elfia we give the mace literal through by the next winning couple.

From that point i'm going to be the Duchess of Dormonia.... where that place also may lie... it is namely fictional. But it is cool to say that youre a Queen or a Duchess... Yes, it is sometimes funny :p

But with the competition there was a costume of course. And that was the thing that i would share with you people, because it had a story... ofcourse.

There are but a few nice pictures of this costume, because i was mostly to busy to be play nice and beautyfull. I have two, two nice pictures. but i have a lot ugly ones! And the other reasen: it was a modest costume, some people think it is a ugly costume because of that, but it was the purpose that it was modest.

The most of them i'm extremely smiling, you now, the one you never used for you facebook profile picture. But i will share them with you :)

Yes, see me smiling! I'm even happy with this not matching medal, what an ugly thing.... I mean the medal ofcourse....

Yes smile child! smile! youre cheeks gonna hate you after this weekend. >:3
At this moment we just heard that we had won. The person next to me is the friend i said earlier that he was my partner, not a partner in the term of love. We are more like brother and sister, and that was our act that weekend to. And no where not related.
Oh look, i'm not smiling on this one! my cheeks most by hurt maybe, i don't know anymore.

I made this dress in case that i want to wear it in normal life, i need only to remove the little butterfly's at my neckline and drop the underskirt, throw a nice belt on it and you have a lovely summer dress for next year. oh and ofcourse loose these wings :3

And here we have the other nice picture i had talk about.

So for the next time i gonna put the making part here below and tell you more about the costume self. See you later.

Greets Jessie.

1898 sailor style dress

Good... This project was made this spring in may-june for a summer evenement in july. This was the Belle Epoque weekend in the zoo of Antwerp. I know, it is not very relevant, but i'm a little bit proud of this dress and if you don't mind, i would share it with pleasure.

Here are some pictures of the result. this pics are made in the zoo and in Lisse (nl)

Pictures of how i made it follow later on below this part of the post ;)

So for the making part i have a few pictures of the total project, i hope you will enjoy them.
The first thing that i made was the two blouses, de blue one for under the lace one.
I used the pattern van Laughing Moon #104, i know that it originel made for a 1909-1913 dress, but the blouse should not come out of the jacket. So i dind't find it disturbing if the sleeves are not seen.

So the whole project was an unusual one. I planned it a year before, but when the placements of the figurants interacted, and when they asked for a photograph of the whole costume before they gave you the place, i got a bit stressed. and the whole thing is made in only 3 full days, with only 5 hours a sleep per day. and jet, i got one of the last places.

Here is was began on the jacket, i used the pattern of truly victorian  tv498.

Here you see the pinning of de white bias that i made of taffeta. it was not realy a straight line.... it is thing where i must work on :p

Here i began on the skirt, i used the truly victorian tv296, it is actually the 1895 ripple skirt, but i liked the form, and thats most of the reason why i choose this pattern and not a pattern that was meant for 1898.

i had some little adjustments so the skirt look like he had a front opening, but its actually a fake one :p

Here the picture that i sent for the figurantion, here are the buttons not yet sewed. later on i made a belt because it felt empty on that spot.

after a difficult search for the buttons i want, i found them in the shop where i first taught the never had them. strange enough the sell only the gold ones here in the vicinity.
i bought a cheap strawhat in xenos (some store for household items and decorations in the netherlands) and pimp the whole thing with left overs, only the boat and the feathers where gathered.
For the people with small heads, just like me, i fill the top with some tulle, because otherwise the hat drops over your ears.... pin it with a hatpin and you get never lost of this thing :p
This is a real antique handbag of my grand- grand- grandmother. (i hope that i used enoough grands...) oke, the thing is, this orginel is from the time that i made the costume.

it was black because the silver was not polished in ages, and some of the rings where missing. in the photo below you can see that i replaced with new ones, yes i can chain mail :3 never taught it was handy for ones.

And sometimes you must be creative if you don't have many money. I made this thing from a ice spoon, one with a long helve, i bend it and so you have a hook where you can hang that little bag on youre skirt.

one day, i gonna buy a real one :p but for now, this thing is a really must have. all time hands free!

I'm sorry for the one they thougt this where the shoes of the American Duchess (yes, i'm to a really big fan :p) but here is the ting, as student you don't have the mony to ship such expensive shoes. this are fake ones i them bought online by pleasershoes.nl
one day i buy the real ones :3
So this is the post of my 1898 dress, it was for me a great adventure, and ik hope dat you enjoyed.
